Hi

We are in Kibiji! I’ll talk a little bit more about our trip!

We visited ‘Tsukuriyama kofun (a tumulus), it took 35min by bike from Kibitsu shrine.

It’s said that this Kofun (a tumulus) was built for the King of local area in 5th century, however, this theory is not proven yet.

Actually, it’s hidden in a veil of mystery

It’s the fourth-largest Kofun in Japan, it’s about 350m.
By the way, you can enter Kofun and climb to the top of that without any restrictions!

It looks
enourmous even though we are far away from it

After
a twenty-minute ride from Kofun, we arrived at Bicchu Kokubunji Temple’.

It was built in 741 on order of Shomu tenno (an emperor), but it was burnt down after that, then it was rebuilt in Edo period.

This is a five-storeyed pagoda, a landmark of Kibiji

It’s about 34m in height.

Can you see animals which are engraved on the wall?

They are ‘Eto (the 12 annual zodiac signs)!

Oh, this one is a rabbit

Each wall has 3 animals, so they are 12 in total.

This is ‘Oni gawara (a demon tile)for roofs.

Oni has an image of evil, although it’s believed that this Oni protects the building from natural disaster and a fire.
Furthermore, it’s a kind of decoration for the building.

This temple isn’t big, but it’s full of atmosphere

We were also impressed by the beauty of a rural landscape
