Okayama Prefectural Museum

Hi
Today I visited ‘Okayama Prefectural Museum’ which is located next to Okayama Korakuen Garden.
県立博物館151B
This museum exhibits historical materials which are linked to Okayama’s history. In spite of its small exhibition space, this museum has many thing to see include valuable paintings, ancient documents and katana (Japanese sword)
Then, let’s go inside!

This is the portrait of Yoshiie Ukita, painted in 1524.

This person is a grandfather of Naoie Ukita(1529-1581) who built Okayama castle during the Warring States period. You can see a typical samurai costume such as `Samurai eboshi (hat)`
And ‘Daimon (kind of Kimono)’. They are fascinating!

This large plate was made about 400 years ago.

This kind of pottery is called ‘Bizen yaki’ which has been inherited from years ago.

It will be interesting to know that Bizen yaki doesn’t need glazing. It means that we can’t predict how it going to be after firing, so that fire and fluttering ash in the kiln draw patterns on the surface of the pottery.

It requires advanced skills to make a big Bizen yaki like this plate, so we can seldom see this size which was made long time ago. Its lively pattern and deep colours are very impressive

This Katana (sword) is made in Okafune area where is famous for producing high quality swords.

This Katana looks elegant but it shows passion and energy underneath.

We swung by ‘Wakuwaku history corner’ near the entrance.

This room has some Japanese old toys, and you can play with them.

We tried ‘Kendama’, it is a toy with a wooden handle and a wooden ball.

It seems easy to play, but it was a bit difficult… anyway, we had fun

What’s more, you can try Kimono on!

These Kimono are made to wear easily, so you don’t need special skills to wear them.
How do we look!? So nice

You should visit Okayama Prefectural Museum when you come to Okayama
I’m sure you’ll enjoy it!
